ROHS COMPLIANCE — EU DIRECTIVE 2002/95/EC
We abide by the RoHS Directive, which stands for “the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.” This EU market directive bans new electrical and electronic equipment containing levels exceeding national standards for the following hazardous substances:
- Lead
- Cadmium
- Mercury
- Hexavalent Chromium
- Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
REACH COMPLIANCE — EU REGULATION (EC) NO. 1907⁄2006
We also comply with the EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) standards:
Registration — Chemical producers are obliged to register safety data for all chemicals produced in quantities above one ton a year to a central agency. Less information is required the lower the tonnage of chemicals produced per year, with only very basic information required for 1 – 10 tons.
Evaluation — Experts from member states and the European Agency will evaluate safety data for higher volume chemicals and other chemicals of concern.
Authorization — Chemicals of “very high concern” would be phased out and replaced by safer alternatives, unless industry can show adequate control of the risk from their use or that their benefits outweigh the risks. Under REACH chemicals of very high concern are:
- Carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins
- Persistent, bio-accumulative toxins
- Toxins of similar concern, e.g. endocrine disrupters.
Restriction of Chemicals — Chemicals may be banned or some uses may be restricted if the European Chemicals Agency, the European Commission or EU Member States consider that action is necessary.
