MTA Long Island Bus Facility Implements State-of-the-Art Security System
by Soma Balber, Customer Relations Specialist, sbalber@pelco.com
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Long Island Bus Facility located
in Garden City, New York, now has a new and improved security system. With the
professional assistance of Bob Gittleson, President of Closed Circuit Too, and
state-of-the-art Pelco video security equipment, the people in Long Island
communities can now board the bus safely and comfortably.
Better Coverage Desired
With the previous black and white system approximately ten years old, Long
Island Bus needed to upgrade their security system with color cameras. They
have about 300,000 square feet to watch at the facility, including the outside
parking areas. "We were looking for better coverage overall," said Barry
Depperman, Supervisor of Security at Long Island Bus. "And Bob’s installation
is 100 percent professional."
Closed Circuit Too, a surveillance and telecommunications sales, installation,
and service company, designed the system that included a Pelco System 9740
matrix switcher (64x8), 18 Esprit pan/tilt/zoom cameras, two multiplexers,
enclosures, and two System 9760 keyboard stations. Gittleson added that Ralph
Salonia at Ademco Distribution (ADI) also provided valuable assistance with the
design and programming of the system.
"The reason I selected Pelco for the installation is from my past experiences
with Pelco," said Gittleson. "Pelco's technical support group with their
exceptional customer service is in a class of its own."
Gittleson said he confronted some minor challenges at first. "I did have
problems with a couple of the Esprit units out of the box, but Ademco
Distribution exchanged them immediately. I also had a problem mating the new
units to the existing Pelco parapet mounts on the building. I drilled holes
through the brackets for the cabling, and this obstacle has since been
addressed by Pelco."
