Pelco B.O.S.S. Software Technical Support

1. The text used in B.O.S.S. appears too small or too large.

Problem:
The text used in B.O.S.S.® appears either very small or too large.

Solution:
B.O.S.S.® is designed to look the best to most users when their monitor resolution is set to 800x600 but to be usable at all resolutions. Changing your monitor resolution will change the appearance of the fonts used for the text in B.O.S.S.®. To change your monitor resolution:

1. Place the cursor on your desktop.
2. Right-click your mouse button.
3. Select Properties.
4. Click on the Settings tab.
5. Adjust the Screen Area selector appropriately.

2. The model number and description fields are too small in quotes and purchase orders.

Problem:
In quote and purchase order Print Preview and on hard copy printouts, the model number field and description run together when entering a 13-15 digit model number. Or, there is not enough space in the extended price field for numbers beyond eight digits.

Solution:
This problem is typically due to the capabilities of your printer driver. Print Preview shows how the quote or purchase order will look when printed. B.O.S.S.® quotes and purchase orders were designed to print well on most printers, but some printers are not capable of fitting the information onto the page. To get the best performance from your printer, verify that you are using the correct printer driver and that the driver is up to date.

If you have more than one printer available to your computer you can try another printer by changing the Windows default printer. To change the default printer used for Windows:

1. Open B.O.S.S.®
2. Select the File menu then "Print Setup...".
3. Use the "Name" list box to select another printer.
4. Click OK to save your changes.

3. Only part of the main screen shows on startup, or there are overlapped areas on purchase orders and quotes.

Problem:
When B.O.S.S.® is first started only part of the screen is shown. The model number and description areas on purchase orders and quotes may also look overlapped.

Solution:
B.O.S.S.® is designed to look the best when the Windows Display Font Size is set to the default of "Small Fonts". When "Large Fonts" are used, B.O.S.S.® starts up with only part of the main screen showing. Just drag the sides or bottom right corner to resize the program. This will have to be repeated each time the program is restarted.

If Font Size is set larger than "Large Fonts", the products on the Purchase Order and Quote screens may look overlapped. This will not affect the Print Preview nor hard copy print outs.

If you wish to reset the Display Font Size to "Small Fonts":

1. Double-click the Display Properties icon in the Windows Control Panel.
2. Click on the Settings tab.
3. Use the "Font Size" list box on this tab to specify Small Fonts.

4. Updates aren't working.

Problem:
When you press the "Check Now" button on the Update screen B.O.S.S.® gives error messages.

Solution:
On some systems with dial-up connections to the Internet, Windows doesn't make an Internet connection when B.O.S.S.® asks it for one. On these machines you need to be sure your connection to the Internet is made before pressing the "Check Now" or "Update Now" buttons. One simple test that a connection is working is to use Internet Explorer to connect to the Pelco FTP site.

1. Type ftp.Pelco.com in the address bar in Internet Explorer then press enter.
2. A list of folders should show and you should be able to browse within these folders and select files to test downloading.
