Cahill Park was historically a magnet for vandalism, graffiti, drugs and underage drinking. Police were unable to dedicate the necessary resources to protect this specific park. Random patrols and city ordinances were not reducing crime. City leaders turned to Pelco for help. A system was installed comprising Spectra III Positioning Dome Systems, intrusion alarm panel, motion detectors, loudspeakers and a digital video recorder. Active once the park closes, any motion within the defined perimeter trips the motion detector. This, in turn, sends an alarm to the Security Operations Centre and directs the camera to focus on the motion. The operator can then evaluate the alarm to determine the necessary resources to allocate for its speedy resolution. If the police are called the system can be used to direct the responding officer to the exact location, improving both officer safety and the effectiveness of the response.
