“We designed the system primarily to monitor the campus parking areas. However, we found it also gave us a view of the campus roadways. This helps us monitor all types of campus traffic and has been a great asset, especially during special events or other peak traffic times.”
– Gary Beddingfield, Parking Administrator, California State University Fresno
Mission
On fall Saturdays, as many as 41,000-plus students, fans and alumni descend on Bulldog Stadium to cheer the Fresno State football team. High-profile sports, concerts and other special events are commonplace at the 21,000-student university in Fresno, California, and a Pelco video security system helps keep the peace. A system of new Pelco Spectra III cameras and a DX9000 digital video recorder (DVR) helps university police keep an eye on public safety.
Solution
The university had a number of cameras from its existing system no longer working, and wanted to replace its broadband system with a new fiber optic cable system. An intricate solution was developed to meet the university’s current needs and provide for future expansion, yet remain within given budget constraints on the 327-acre campus surrounded by 1,000 acres in agricultural production.
Result
In all, 26 new Pelco Spectra III positioning systems assist university police in monitoring parking lots, campus roadways, athletic venues, buildings and grounds for suspicious or illegal activity. While its multi-million dollar assets are of critical importance, Fresno State officials placed an even higher priority on ensuring the safety of everyone on the campus.
