“The value of property protected by our security system is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, but the safety of our employees and others at the hospital is something you can’t put a price on.”
– Roger Sheets, Director of Security, LifeBridge Health
Mission
A series of SUV break-ins and theft of catalytic converters worth up to $2,000 each began in late 2007 in southern Maryland. The crime spree spread throughout the community, including the employee parking lots at LifeBridge Health’s Northwest Hospital. At the time, the hospital did not have a video security presence.
Solution
As the hospital expanded and a new off-campus parking lot was built, Pelco’s Spectra IV Series Dome Positioning Systems were installed, feeding video to a DX8000 digital video recorder (DVR). The system monitors, records and stores video for up to 14 days for investigation.
Result
The theft of catalytic converters spread to the new employee parking area, but with Pelco systems now in place, security personnel were able to analyze video to determine the break-ins were happening at a specific time of day. The finding, along with video of the thefts in progress, was handed over to Baltimore County police, who identified the suspect and resolved the four-month mystery. Case closed.
